Although the Eggen valley is known to be quiet and secluded there is no shortage of things to do and explore – first and foremost the magical mountains and the idyllic village with next-door Deutschnofen also well worth a visit. Here you can experience genuine South Tyrolean hospitality. You can shop for local produce or stop for a bite of pizza. There are two restaurants in the village serving local specialties.

South Tyroleans are very much attached to their traditions. On St Nicholas’s Day, for instance, we celebrate the patron saint of our church. In summer you can accompany festive processions. The bonfires on Sacred Heart Sunday are especially impressive. You should pay a visit to Maria Weißenstein, a famous place of pilgrimage as well as to South Tyrol’s only observatory at Gummer. From Unterwerkstatthof you can do great day trips to nearby cities. Bozen and Meran are important centres offering culture and history. E.g., Ötzimuseum, Messner Mountainmuseum Sigmundskron, Meran thermal spring, the gardens of Castle Trautmannsdorf. Well worth a visit are Verona’s Arena, Lake Garda and Venice.
